learn guitar
Niamh asked:

I am teaching myself guitar… it’s not going great, i know the basic chords (C,D,E,A.Em,Am etc) but can’t really do bar chords. I can play a couple of songs but if somebody asked me to play something that they can sing to or whatever there is nothing. any ideas?

Also, what should i be doing to help myself learn faster? Should i start using a pic?

thanks :D xxx

try playing GOOD RIDDANCE by Greenday the beginning part was hard for me playing 1 string at a time, and i suggest using a pick even tho im no guitar expert i just liked it better lol Produh G

I don’t use a pick, never did..I’ve been playing for like 5 years. If you don’t know what a power chord is look it up and learn them, they are really easy and important. That is the first thing i learned. Playing guitar is really easy once you get the hang of it. kyler

don’t start with chords learn the strings and notes first. you can look beginner songs up on the internet there are a lot on 8notes.com. When you start using chords let it be or good riddance are easy. Thats where I started Victoria

I actually learnt better and built up my strength without using a pick. I’m not very good at all but I know three simple songs.

Try learning Tribute by Tenacious D. It uses the A minor chord shape and only really requires basic skills to play and most of the chorus is played using easy chords around the same area on the second and first fret.

But if you’re not into metal or find it too hard try something like I love rock and roll by Joan Jett. That was the first song I ever learnt all the way through (solo included) and it only took about 20 minutes.

The third song I know all the way through is chasing cars by snow patrol. This is the EASIEST song to learn using tab.

The chorus is EXACTLY the same as the main riff but it is played as chords instead of individual strums. This would be best played with a pick.

If you don’t know how to read tab try this page:

Here is a site with LOADS of tabs for pretty much any song once you learn how to read tab =):

    Hope I helped :) Ivor

If you know the basic guitar chords there are loads of nice songs you can play. Here’s a few:

    Amazed by Lonestar
    Breathing by Lifehouse
    Clocks by Coldplay
    Dreams by The Cranberries
First Cut Is The Deepest by Cat Stevens
    Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen
Here Without You by Three Doors Down
Horse With No Name by America
    Hotel California by The Eagles
House of the Rising Sun by The Animals
    Pianoman by Billy Joel
    Please Forgive Me Bryan Adams
    Wonderwall by Oasis

This site has the chords for most of these songs and some other easy ones. It’s in an Ebook you can download… hexv
