I have a black Peavey Rockmaster 6 string guitar. I am a beginner on the guitar and never have had to pick out strings before and need new strings. I am not sure what kind of strings are on there now, it looks like metal strings with ball ends.

What do I need to look for such as size, type of string etc. Also could you suggest a brand or give me any other information needed. Thank you.

You cant go wrong with med gauge ernie balls. The different types arent important until you get good and start requiring different sounds. just make sure they are metal strings! dopeybck

I agree! Ernie Ball’s are my favorite. I like a heavier .10 gauge string. It gives a meatier, heavy smooth sound. Great for metal or jazz.

If you take online guitar lessons you will learn everything there is to know about the guitar and find the genre experts in the style you want to play. They will pretty much answer all your questions.

    Hope this helps? Size9

For a beginner maybe stick with 9’s (09-11-16-24-32-42). I personally like Ernie Ball Super Slinky or Elixir Nanoweb. Yeah 10’s will give a fatter sound, but that shouldn’t be as much of a concern as practice time right now and you’ll probably practice a little longer each session without finger pain using 9’s. I like 9’s anyway because I do more blues and bend a lot. If you are into metal or hard rock you may want to move to 10’s once the fingers build up more. ddrum
