What kind of paint should I use to repaint my acoustic guitar?
Taylor asked:
I sanded down my guitar and am ready to repaint, after I apply the lacquer. I want to paint it blue but I want it to be shiny like a guitar you would buy in the store. What kind of paint should I use and where do you think i could get this?

Don’t lacquer until after you paint. Use gray aerosol paint primer first. Then spray several LIGHT coats of aerosol metallic flake in the color of your choice. Let dry for at least 8 hours. Sand lightly using fine grit sandpaper. 400-600. Be careful not to sand through the color. Clean dust thoroughly then apply several coats of gloss lacquer. Use an aerosol. Spray with slow even passes, overlapping by half each pass. Best to practice on a piece of cardboard until you get the feel of it. Steel wool between coats with 0000. Allow last coat to cure for 24 hours.
You will make a mess and be very disappointed with the results if you fail to follow these steps. Patience and careful preparation are the key to success. You can find everything you need at your local home center or auto parts store. Good luck! Brett
