What is the difference between an electric acoustic guitar and a acoustic guitar?

with an electric acoustic you can by a patch cord and plug it into an amplifier (amp for short) buying an electric acoustic is going to cost you more money for the fact that you can plug them into an amp and buying the amp for one is also going to increase the cost, but you don’t have to buy an amp for the electric. A regular acoustic cant be plugged into an amp, simple as that. If you’re just a beginner i’d recommend just a regular acoustic. if your planning on playing in front of large crowds of people i would say get the electric so you can use the amp. but if you re just planning on maybe playing by yourself or for a few people i would say just get the acoustic. there is pretty much no difference in the way they sound or how they play. it just depends on what you re going to use it for.
but my strong recommendation for a beginner would just be to get a regular acoustic, and if you do intend on playing in front of a somewhat large crowd the microphone will usually pick up the sound of the guitar so you wont even need an amp anyway.

An acoustic electric is just an acoustic guitar, that has a pickup built in it from the factory.
If you think you might want a pickup, it is easier to buy a guitar with one, than to add it later.
A couple advantages of acoustic electrics, are that many come with a preamp built in with guitar mounted controls, and many have a guitar tuner built in as well.
It means that you have the “option” of plugging the guitar into an amp. byrde94
Acoustic-electric is the same like acoustic, except that is has a pickup and preamp builded in, so whenever you feel the need to play louder, you can plug it in to the PA system or amp.
As you are a beginner, I think that you should go with acoustic gutar not acoustic-electric.

An electric acoustic has a mic inside the sound hole if you want to amplify it. You can still play it like a regular acoustic guitar, but you can amplify it if necessary. Benjamin
An electric acoustic guitar is just a acoustic guitar with a built in pick up so you can plug it into a amp or pa. An regular acoustic cannot plug in to a amp and be amplified except using a microphone to mic to the guitar. Kris
