What is the best way to record Metal guitar without using mics?
Dan asked:
I’ve been playing guitar for 10 years now and have only recorded using mics, but in my current accommodation, i cant be loud, so is there a good alternative to recording without mics? i know about DI but what is the best DI to get?

It depends on what sound you are looking for. With an electric guitar, the amp has a lot to do with the sound you get. You can record directly into a board or computer or whatever, but make sure you can achieve the sonic quality you are after. With enough effects you could do just fine. When I recorded, I like to record the bass directly into the board and mic the guitars. chris
you can use USB audio interfaces like Line 6 toneport ceritis
buy any audio interface, m-audio makes good ones, and then buy guitar modeling software like amplitube bob
Picking up the line6 gearbox software would probably be one of the best investments you ever made in recording equipment. It has built in amp, cab, and effect models. You’d only be spending a little over a hundred bucks and you can use it for more than just guitar. I get professional quality recordings just using that, a drum machine, mic (for vocals), and a small mixing board for powering my mic. If you listen to bands such as Animals as Leaders and Born of Osiris, the quality of this software can be heard on both their CD’s joshpaniagua
If you’re going to plug it into a software with a DI, make sure it has a good plugin that can really boost hte signal and make it sound great.
I would strongly recommend joining a community of recording enthusiasts like - Forums are great because they’re free and there are usually tons of people there who are willing to answer your questions and help guide you toward the direction you want to head.
I’m sure it’ll help
