What is the best type of acoustic guitar to buy?
Talulah asked:
I want to learn how to play the guitar, but to start I need a guitar. For beginners, what is the best type to buy? Or does it really matter at all?

it truthfully doesnt matter, but I started out with a yamaha. It all depends on finding a guitar that fits you. Don’t spring for a Gibson until you’ve really gotten good

Yamaha’s are the beginners guitar, idea is keep it cheap when you start, your really don’t want to spend 400 to 600 dollars on a guitar and then never play it
here’s an acoustic electric
here’s a straight acoustic
i think they used to sell a 99 dollar one, which is the one i started with, but i wasn’t able to find it tylero380
You need to decide on a budget for your purchase. If you got a limited budget, you can buy a cheaper and easy-to-play acoustic guitar. You can find some guitars under $100 on ebay, or you can check this one,, have bought it as a gift for a friend. Think it would be one of your choices. Helen
I agree with the other guys on here, when starting out learning guitar do not spend a lot of money.
At this stage in the game they all do the same thing, but decide what style you want to play, acoustic guitars come in 2 variations, steel string and nylon string.
Only buy a nylon string guitar if you want to learn classical or spanish style guitar.
I run a website that has a guide on it to buying your first guitar, what to look for, how much you should be paying etc, you may find it useful Stevec71
The guitar you are looking for is the Ibanez Acoustic Jump-start. It is $99 and comes with an acoustic guitar, gig bag, picks, strap, and coupons along with other other accessories. It’s a great guitar for beginners from 4 years old, to professionals to 60 years old. You can find it at Guitar Center or guitarcenter.com. I highly recommend you to use Guitar Center/guitarcenter.com rather than any other guitar shops. If you don’t find that satisfying (which I doubt you won’t find unsatisfying), then I advise you to buy a Cascade Acoustic Electric Package. It is also $99 and comes with an acoustic/electric Cascade guitar, an amplifier, a gig bag, picks, strap, and as well as other accessories. If you don’t no what an acoustic/electric guitar is, it’s a guitar that sounds and looks exactly like an acoustic guitar, except it has a port and a built in pickup to connect to an amplifier. Some might have a built in tuner, and bass/treb/mid knobs and other goodies. Those are the two best beginners’ guitars I know. I hope I helped you a lot. napkindude
I would shoot for the $200-$300 range. It’s a little more of an initial investment, but “budget” guitars are poorly built, and will not only sound awful, but they will be difficult to play. They also will often have poor fret placement, and every other chord you play will be out of tune, which is discouraging for a beginner because everything you play will sound terrible.
I would go to a couple local guitar shops and try holding a few guitars. Don’t worry about the price right now, just pay attention to how it feels in your hands. Different people like different sizes and shapes of guitars, you need to find the one right for you. Once you found one that feels right, look for a similar one within your budget. LucasMan
