What is the best to use for recording guitar?
zegzeima asked:
I want to start recording my guitar on to my computer, and I wanted to know what peripheral would be the best to use. I’m currently looking at the M-Audio fast track, but I heard that has many problems, then I’m looking at the Line 6 Guitar Port XT. Which of these would be best for a netbook running Windows XP (getting a Laptop soon with Windows 7) or is there a third or fourth device that is better?

If you want an actual device (physical knobs), use: Tascam Dp-02. I LOVE THAT DP 02!!!
Computer software: I heard that ‘ProTools’ is really good along with the M-Audio track.
I hope this helped Eric
Don’t go anywhere near M-Audio. It is complete garbage. Not to mention that you will only be able to use ProTools M Powered if you take that route. Contrary to what many closet studio owners say, there is an industry shift away from ProTools as other software comes out that doesn’t have the restrictions of PT.
I would get a Focusrite Saffire 6. It is a smaller USB version of the Pro40 that my remote recording company uses in our ultralight rig. In addition to that, get Reaper. It is a great digital workstation and it only costs about $60. With those two things you will have a great system to work on, as well as only having a total investment of around $300.
