George N asked:

I want to start learning how to play the guitar but my parents can’t afford lessons. And my friends don’t play the guitar. Are there any good sites in which I can learn how to play the guitar from the basics. I looked myself but its not very helpful for a beginner such as myself, or you have to pay for it. Thanks.

There are many people that teach guitar online. If you go to and search for “guitar lessons”, you will probably find man results of people that start teaching from the very basics, such as simply holding the guitar in the right position. It is also completely free to view these tutorial videos.

    Good luck with learning :)

I taught myself to play guitar when I was around 11…my advice would be just to look up guitar tabs of songs you like and learn them. You might be crappy at the beginning, but struggle through them, and it will get much easier :]

And it will make you feel special that you know how to play an actual song instead of just random chords and scales.

    A good tab site is
[if you don't know how to read tab, it is pretty straightforward/easy and you could look up how to do it on google]

    Good luck :D

I would highly recommend. I started at the very beginning of January (2009.) and already know a lot (for free!) considering that I started with absolutely no knowledge. Justin (the one that teaches on the website) is very funny and happy to help, has experience, really knows what he is talking about and teaches very useful stuff in a very comprehensive way. When I got the guitar and bought a tutorial book I thought: “no!”. There was too much of everything. As I started learning with his website, I stopped reading gossip in the internet as the time spent on playing guitar with his website seemed to be too attractive to leave it for gossips and rubbish.

When you try the site (do it!) remember to donate as this is the only way Justin can keep improving the site!
