    Any guitar, but I would prefer starting on an acoustic. Go to a locally respected music shop. They should have guitars ranging from a hundred bucks up to thousands. RandallM

    As you’re after a pretty cheap guitar, I would recommend going to a good music store and buying second hand. You’ll get much more for your money this way.

    If you’re looking for an electric, I’d recommend the Yamaha Pacifica.

    For an acoustic, as an entry-level guitar, Fender do a reasonable line. For something a bit better, but not ridiculously expensive, check out a mid range Yamaha.
