Lauren S asked:

I’m looking into buying an acoustic guitar. Although I’ve played 8 years I’ve only ever owned Yamaha’s. I really want to get a nice, durable acoustic guitar. Which brands and styles do you recommend and why? Also, how much would I expect to pay for the acoustic you suggest?

well ovations are durable, molded plastic backing of the body. but they have different sound, you may or may not like it

there are MANY good brands of acoustics

it depends on your “price range”

unless you have the time and money to check out the MANY small guitar companies, (and there are a LOT of good ones)
I feel that Taylor and Martin make the best American guitars,
    between $1500 and $5000

they best ting to do, is to find a local music store, that carries many acoustics, and try them your self?

    good luck

i would say if you’re looking for something thats great to play and is also durable i’d look up Taylor guitars, even if they’re up the market. if you want something a bit cheaper and is still pretty nice, look at some epiphones. =]

It really depends on what type of acoustic guitar you want. A Classical Nylon String or A Steel String? And how much money are you willing to spend. If your going buy by brand I would recommend Martin Guitars. There about from 500-1500. If you are willing to spend more than that I would recommend buying a handmade custom guitar.

I use a dean, a Jay Turser and a Vintage. None of those brands are reknowned for making class acoustic but I have acoustics from all three and would recommend them highly to you.

Ovation make nice looking guitars with unique tones but for a truly class acoustic I would look at Martin or Taylor guitars. Fender can be good as well.
