What is essential for taking a bass guitar on a plane?
Some Guy asked:
I’m going to Japan and I need to know what I have to do in order to be able to take my bass guitar on a 12 hour flight. I’m going to buy a hard case and I need to know what company case manufacturer is reliable, what I need to do to protect the instrument, and any other answers that would be significant for my situation including requests to airlines.

Loosen the strings.
As far I as know, you can buy a hard case at any music stores that sell guitars.
For transport, check with the airlines directly.
Make sure you loosen the strings on your instrument. As for the hard case all you have to do is check how strong it is. You need to be sure that it will take hard knocks and safely have heavy objects left on top. A good test of the later is to sit on it and see if it bends under the wieght, if it doesn’t bend at all it should be very safe. Another thing to check is that the lining is able to absorb bumps without causing damage to the guitar. As far as the airline is concerned then you will need to ask first, make sure you have the dimensions and wieght at hand for the call. It will probably be classified as over sized bagage. Hope you find this helpful.
Buy a seat for your guitar. This applies to all types of musical instruments expect for the drums since this is too big for the seats. Otherwise if you have a hard case, you can check it in as part of your free allowance. Make sure that you keep all receipts for the guitar and the case. This is if your guitar gets damage it is a lot easier to make a claim to the air carrier.
