N the Zone asked:

I’m going to learn how to play the electric guitar and need to buy a new guitar and need to know what an average price for one would be. I don’t want to buy a cheap one and have to buy a more expensive one down the road, I’d rather buy a good one now. And if you know any online sites that list that kinda info, that would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

you need to go to guitar center and look for one yourself. you dont choose the guitar… the guitar chooses you. :P DONT F WITH ME

You can get decent ones for as cheap as 250
I generally buy mine used (ebay, craigslist, pawn shops)
I find most of my guitars retail in the 450$ area TSNE

there are prices all over the place in guitars but if you’re just starting and don’t want a cheap one i would recommend a mexican made fender telecaster $499 at guitar center. they are fantastic and really not a lot of money. if you’re willing to go higher a PRS se singlecut for $590-619. this is a bad ass guitar and plays so smoothly. hope this helps. jackson

    Hello there,

You can expect a decent Fender Strat to run at least $700. A good Gibson will run around $1200. The prices will vary depending on the model you chose and where you buy it.

If at all possible, you should go to some music shops and try some guitars. No one else can tell you what model guitar you will find most comfortable to play and what model guitar you like the sound of best. Which neck I think is easiest to play and which body style feels most comfortable to me, may not be the one you like. It really is a matter of personal taste.

What type of music you intend to play and your personal playing style will have an effect on your chocie of guitar. In addition to the Les Paul and the Strat, Ibanez has some very good guitars (I like the RG series), PRS makes a good guitar. Jackson/Charvel makes a good guitar (perhaps suited more for metal than all around playing).

After you get the names of some brands and models, you narrow down which ones you select to try out by going to Harmony Central and reading the user reviews. That will give you more information about each from the folks who own those models. Then you will have an idea of a few models you want to test. Go to some music stores and try those models. Then you are ready for price comparisons to find the best deal..

By the way, you should be aware that the amp is an important part of your sound and should not be just an after thought. A great guitar played through a lousy amp will sound lousy. A mediocre guitar played through a great amp will sound pretty decent. So plan on spending about half your budget on your amp.

Hello. In my opinion I believe a good average price for a good new guitar is around $500, plus or minus some depending on the deal you can get. Some good places to find like new/practically new guitars for a deal are on craigslist or ebay. I was able to get an Epiphone Les Paul standard as my starting guitar for around $100 cheaper than at any store that was selling them by searching on craigslist, plus it was in perfect condition. I would say find the guitar you really love and research it by visiting websites like guitarcenter and musiciansfriend or go into your local stores. All in all, I would say if you search and are able to get a good deal, a nice average price is around $400. Good luck! Taylor
