I am thinking of either a Gibson/epiphoneSG or Les Paul, fender strat, ibanez RG, or a gidon. I play mostly different kinds of rock but I still want a verstile guitar. You are probably going to say to try them out and I will but I need to narrow down my chooses. Thanks in advance!

depends on what your gonna be playing. If your mainly gonna be playing the heavy rythmic stuff then you should go for a les paul to provide that chunky quality to the riffs, but if your mainly gonna be playing lead guitar. then you might want and ibanez becasue they are generally much slimmer and they will provide the playabilty in fast passages :) Wiki_Rockr

In the following order I would choose 1. Gibson Les Paul 2. Epiphone SG 3. Fender Strat. All fine instruments and capable of performing well and very versitile. You may also consider Gibson 335.

I have been playing Gibson, Epiphone, and Fender guitars for 55 years. I love various Genre’s in large part Rock, Southern Rock and Country and I have found all of the above very capable of doing an outstanding job. Red Bone

    Hello,
I see one of guitars that you preferred is the Gibson/Epiphone SG or Les Paul. In my honest opinion Les Pauls are amazing and very versatile in the way they play. They are incredibly perfect to fit the rock, hard rock, some metal, and pretty much any other playing style. As for choosing between Gibson and Epiphone, Epiphones are considerably cheaper and may sometimes just fit better for someone who isn’t going to be insane on the guitar or just make it a hobby.I myself own an Epiphone Les Paul Standard and have loved it ever since I started playing. If you’re really interested in a career in music, then you may want to go with a Gibson. I wish you luck on your search. Taylor

Rule #1 Get something you think looks cool. It’s your instrument, you should enjoy it.

Rule #2 Play the guitar and see how much you enjoy it’s playing and sound.

When in doubt, look at your favorite bands. What are they playing? Kurt
