What is a good guitar body style and wood?
Electra_k asked:
I usually play soft rock, jazz, spanish-electric, like Santana, but sometimes I do rock like Muse, Survivor, Jimi Hendrix, etc. I want to know a cool body style, because I am getting a custom guitar. I would also like to know what wood for the body and neck.

Hello, only one person has given me a body style, I want body style too.

get the cherry guitar
swamp ash wood
Alder or Mahogany wood is good too. Alder is cheaper form of Maple wood. Maple is very epensive to work with so Luthiers ( Guitar builders) will use Alder as a cheaper alternative body wood for that thick, solid tone. Most high end Gibsons are made of Mahogany & Mahogany necks. Most high end Fender Stratocsters are made of Solid Alder body wood & Maple necks.
and look at the guitar body wood & neck wood specs

Fender 69 strat with an alder body.
If it is a custom guitar, the guitar has to be something you like.. not ideas of people you dont know.
I could say get a flying V, you might hate a flying V and that is a lot of money to spend on a guitar you don’t like (I don’t like the flying V).
LP’s are made from mahgony with a maple cap, the mahgony makes LP’s pretty heavy compared with other guitars. But the tone is pretty distinctive. There has been a lot of research done into tone woods for guitars.
Finish will have somethign to do with the wood you chose as well.. are you having it painted so that you can’t see the wood grain. Alder, basswood, plain maple will do. Do you want the woods grain to show through.. then I suggest a fine tiger maple. You can have it stained any color and the grain comes out beautiful. Do a search for PRS (Paul Reed Smith) guitars and take a look at some of his stuff.
You play jazz.. so maybe you are looking for a semi hollow body, like the Ibanez Artcore series.. or a Gibson ES355 the kind BB King plays. For the price of a custom you can by 2 or more very good guitars of different styles for the different styles of music you play.
I would opt for more guitars as opposed to a custom…
Fender Strat with maple neck
Ibanez Artcore semi hollow
Gibson LP
as far as body style, i’d say a double cutaway would fit what your doing perfectly. That’s what Santana uses a lot. Something that resembles a PRS
It’s like this, The harder the wood, the brighter the tone. It’s just that simple. I have a Strat that was custom built, The body is Mahogany with a flame maple top and I had him route chambers inside the body just like a les paul. It has great tone and looks so nice with the flame maple top. As far as body type, thats really all you. The bigger the body the more tone it creates. I love that guitar because it’s a one of a kind.
