Mike asked:

I am in a band and I have been playing guitar for a while. I can play anything from rush to slayer. I need a good electric guitar that will sound professional on stage. Any ideas? I love the feel of fender guitars but I don’t know which one to get

  1. Joseph G says:

Paul Reed Smith, McCarty with PAF humbuckers for deep tone
    Rickenbacker
    Gibson les paul custom
In Fender get A mexican and fit it with Seymour duncan lilttle 59 and vintage singles or others
Most Fenders are overpriced. John Suhr is a good custom style fender guitar. Joseph G

Jackson USA models are EXTREMELY versatile and have a rich (modern) history not found in many guitars. i can say without doubt you would love them…it’s damn near impossible not to.

don’t let the current push for advertising for just metal sway you…a USA Jackson has absolutely incredible clean tones as well. (Def Leppard is a prime example)

P.S. Most Jacksons are of a Strat scale length, so the transition would likely be minimal for you.

The real Jacksons (USA) are a bit pricey…but it’s like anything else, you get what you pay for. ?

If you are using Fender, and more into heavy rock metal, then you may want one of the Jaguar series,
but better would be the Stratocaster series,

if you were going with other brands there a re several, Gibson -Les Paul would be favored,
    Explorer or Flying V,

Iron Maiden also has a Jackson and a strat, so you can do metal with these type of guitars.

PRS guitars are just wonderful. But I play with light distortion. That’s where you can really get expressive tones out of the PRS. I have PRS SE custom 24, and that guitar is just amazing. But it’s vintage pickups are not for metal.

I guess there is something to be said for the EMG pickups’, since they very quite you can distort them more. You can buy them stock on many different guitars these days.

If you like Fenders, I would look at Fender like guitars - humbucking pickups, maple necks, whatever. PRS (SE) also makes a ’strat’ like guitar. The Schecters are mostly based on the strat using heavier woods, humbuckers etc…

You should look at the Tremonti SE PRS guitar. It has ebony neck, EMG pickups, 25″ scale length (shorter than a strat, longer than a LP), 24 frets. THe PRS necks are so good they make excellent tapping guitars.

Also, don’t get the real heavy guitars, especially if you are gigging. ObamaBot THX-1138

If you want something unique for the advanced player, get an XOX Handle. It’s a fantastic guitar and unbelievably versatile. Average Mike

Get yourself a usa strat, turn the gain to about half way, then use your volume on the guitar to roll back the distortion when needed. I have a strat with a seymor duncan hot rails in the bridge and I love it. Put it in the 2nd position and it classic strat, all bridge and its a humbucking screamer. I also use a lot of schecter guitars on stage but only the heavy high end ones like the solo 6 classic, and the blackjack atx. John
