What are the best single coil and hunbucker pick ups for guitar to use in a guitar project?
BamBam asked:
I have a 1989 Ibanez rg560 guitar body and want to get the best sound out of the pick ups. What pick ups would you suggest from your experience?

Wow - a question right up my alley - I’m an electric guitar player and someone who has rewired a LOT of guitars.
I’d say for the humbucker, make sure you have a 4 conductor humbucker.
(Maybe your 1989 Ibanez has 4 conductor pickups, I don’t know.)
Before you buy any new pickups, see if you can experiment with the ones you already have. For example, having a switch which puts coils into series or parallel wiring makes quite a change in a guitar’s versatility.
I’d say the best place to ask your question would be:
I also have some web pages about guitar wiring and they start here:
(But visit the Guitar Nuts page first). surf_dude
BamBam,
For that guitar I would say get the following:
For the single Coils: Fender Custom Shop Texas Specials. These are the best single coils ever and its really easy to get fantastic tone out of these. I have several sets and they sound way better than any other single coils I’ve played no matter what I plug into. Its a natural really thick bluesy Stevie-Ray tone. Dialed down they get sweet clean tones. You can use them for any style.
For the humbucker: Depends on the style. For Heavier stuff get the Seymour Duncan JB. For less heavy stuff get the Seymour Duncan ‘59. Any of those are versatile and can be used for any style you want to play.
Good luck Rocking,
John John
I just wanted to say that I totally agree with John on the Seymour Duncan’s although I prefer the Pearly Gates to the JB in the bridge position. I have both setups (both with a ‘59 in the neck). ddrum
