    1. Arrange to take lessons from a qualified guitar instructor.
    2. Plan to make a notebook of music terms, chords, key signatures, and chord progressions.
    3. Your first note to write and keep is the string names from lowest in pitch to highest in pitch: E A D G B E
    4. Pick up a guitar book titled Hal Leonard’s Beginning Guitar Method #1. It will familiarize you with many aspects of learning the guitar.

Be prepared to endure two weeks of sore fingertips until the calluses arrive. If you have problems managing temporary pain then guitar playing is not for you.

    I wish you success. guitarpicker56@yahoo.com

    Learning the Guitar
You need a course of instruction.
The best way is with a private teacher
    2nd would be class lessons
3rd regularly get together with other guitar players
or if you absolutely will or can not do the above, Buy a book on how to play the guitar and follow it religiously.
last would be to find some free online lessons and skip around in them doing what YOU think you want to do next.
Guitar is one of the world’s most popular instruments.
It is easy to take with you.
It has a sound that people like.
It can be use in almost any type of music.
Almost anyone can learn to play it.
Simple music is easily played after only a few days or weeks.
You can continue to learn new and challenging music forever. Kab

If you can find an instructor you like then private lessons are the way to go. I tried that route and didn’t like it, wrong instructor for me. I decided to try learning from a DVD. I picked up the Rock House Method’s Learn Rock Guitar and really like it. Tried a very popular and expensive one first, Learn and Master Guitar…hated it and sent it back. The Rock House DVD’s just work for me. One difference for me though is that I am a drummer of 30 years so I’ve spent most of my life around music and great guitar players. I also have good guitar players that I can just call and ask a question. If you don’t have that luxury then I would stick to private lessons for now. ddrum

I’d recommend trying to find a private teacher if you can afford it. I also host a free guitar lesson podcast that you might be interested in. You can find it here: .

    Good luck,
