What kind of electric guitar should I get?

I’m a beginner but am taking guitar class in high school and I want to get a cheeper electric guitar. What companies/types do you think I should get? Should I go for a beginner kit or get a cheaper guitar and better amp so I can have the amp for longer and get a newer guitar in a year or so? IDK what to really do there is so many guitars out there.
