You should start off with an acoustic. Dont spend a lot on it at first. You may decide that you dont like it. But learning on an acousitc will strengthen your fingers and hands. Good luck Rebekah G
if you know someone who plays, go over and ask if they can teach you a few things
or try taking a few classes and have the guy lend you a guitar for the first few times…..see if you really like it
then buy something around 100-250, there are lots of good brands, but again, ask someone who knows where and what type for a beginner
you can also go to Guitar Center or Musician’s Friend and see the reviews on some guitars ♪the dude♫
A good acoustic guitar will cost about £300. Martin&Co and Taylor both do models that are excellent and have a good resale value if you give up or trade up.
If you want an electric guitar go for a bottom of the range Gibson or a mexican Fender strat or telecaster with a Fender (valve) Blues junior amp, both guitar makes are very good and the Fender valve amp is top notch for sound. The guitar will cost about £400 (maybe a little more for the gibson) the amp about £300 and are well worth it, and superb resale prices. If you teach yourself, don’t expect much progress for about a year, unless you have a great talent. iusedtolooklikemyavatar
I would advise buying a budget pack which includes basic electric guitar,10 to 15 watt amp and bag for guitar to start off Ian K.
You could get a cheap yamaha electric guitar for about £90 new. It is a good value brand.
Although alot of people learn on an acoustic. Prefered is a steel string acoustic guitar.
If you want a dvd to learn from, try the LICK LIBRARY Guitar dvds. Obviously look for the beginners one, then progress to the others. They are a bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Happy playing Jack
I don’t believe there is a wrong or right answer, but, my recommendation would be to stick with a reputable brand. This can be done without spending an arm and a leg because most of the top brands make affordable “starter” guitars. I would recommend starting with an acoustic because you wouldn’t have to worry about cords, amp, etc. Once you feel you are getting a handle on the instrument, then you can look into upgrading. Prices can range from 75.00 and up. SCOTT P
pick up a cheap acoustic($100-$250)have the guitar shop put on some extra light strings (.10). buy it at a guitar shop not at a flea market or pawn shop due to the intonations. next get lessions or pick up a Mel Bay beginners book. First thing to learn is how to tune it. Alot of people want to learn but just do not have the ability to because of tone deafness. I recently attempted to teach a large guy (6′8″)to play but he couldnt get his fingers in the frets. He had a good ear and 2 months later he came back to me with a bass and is now on his way!!! oh and expect alot of frustration. ive been playing for over 25 years and still get frustrated. anywho hope this helps and the best of luck to you, it will change your life!!! joes guitar
Your new to it , why spend loads ? ! You can get a cheap out of a box starter kit for about £150, i still play mine after 3 years. You also don’t have to learn on an acoustic, someone who is , lets say a Slipknot or Steve Vai fan might not last long strumming the acoustic ( which i got a year down the line after my electric ). I would recommend lessons off a decent guitar tutor tho, paying about £15 a lesson. I started by checking out Guitar for Dummies book. Andy B
A good cheap fender style guitar will do they shoudn’t cost much more than £150 you’ll need a cheap amp too and a tuner
you can try and teach yourself to play (which is very hard) or you can get lessons from a professional music teacher who if you find the right one will reccommend a good beginners guitar for you claire
the best to learn on is an acoustic you could prob get a second hand 1 for £100 but if u have a wife or girfriend god help them my husband started playin 6yrs ago i got him his first guitar i did’nt know he would drive me mad playin the same cord over and over and over then the same tune he plays it really good now and is in a rock band now kiss
if you think youll like guitar go buy one at daddys junky music or some music store near whereabouts u live. I first got an acoustic And after playing 4 a month i wanted an eletric. A used electric is cheper than a new acoustic and it works fine Zak I
I have a Fender Squier that i bought as a pack at GUITAR CENTER. The package came with a case, picks, pipe tuner, books, and the guitar. It was around $200. MusicGirl
