How young can kids start playing a guitar?

Depends on the guitar. My cousin started at the age of 2. Actually, it was a ukulele. From the sounds of it, you don’t seem like the type that will make it fun for him. Or will you? I mean, wondering if he’s too young for something… Seriously, 2 may sound young, but I showed him that I could do some amazing stuff on the guitar and then put a ukulele on the floor… He’ll get it one day, especially if I keep showing him stuff.
Doe HE want to play guitar is the question.
If so, get him a half size, or smaller if his fingers are tiny.
His teacher will expect him to practise for about half an hour each day-(3×10 minute sessions work best for little ones) and lessons are about $30 per 1/2 hour-less if he’s in a group.

does he want to play? i think if he wants to play and would want to start having a go. and if hes a smart kid he’ll get it straight away. but i dont think you should force him just because YOU want him to play.
I don’t see the correlation between rugby union and guitars….
Usually younger kids have a problem holding down the strings, get frustrated, and quit. However there really isn’t an age limit, other than they should be able to read a bit.

Well my boyfriend plays rugby and when he was two his parents gave him a little guitar and ever since hes been playing and he is in his own band and getting a record deal as we speak. Go for it! and good luck!
I saw a kid once who was 2 yrs old, with a miniature guitar. He was also playing drums. I say miniature because it wasn’t a toy- it actually functioned
I don’t think he’s too young. It depends on how careful he is with things. I would suggest not starting off with an expensive one though probably a used one.
