The Chosen One asked:

I am a beginner at guitar, and I am getting an electric, due to it being eisier to learn, but I want to be able to make it sound like an acoustic guitar. Is this possible? Or would I have to get an acoustic as well.

unplug it from the amp and drill a big hole in it Brandon L

It will cost some money but they have pedals for that. You need an acoustic simulator pedal.

These are very easy to hook up, just plug your guitar into the pedal, and the pedal into the amp. Brian O

You can use pickup selection and amp settings to get an “acoustic” sound but it’s not quite the same.
However if you are trying to play “folk” music or just get a clean strumming sound, it can be done.
most electric guitars have at least 2 pickups. if you are using a les Paul Ibanez or other 2 pickup guitars, you would use the “neck” or “rhthym” pickup to get a deeper tone. On your amp, use the “clean” channel or make sure all distortion or overdrive levels are down all the way. If you have the “chorus” effect on your amp use a very gentle setting to add just a touch of chorus to give your guitar a nice atmospheric tone similar to a 12 string acoustic. Adjust your bass mid and treble knobs..( higher treble..maybe mid to high bass and tweak the mid until it sounds the most “natural”

If you are getting a “Strat” type guitar, use the “in between” pickup settings (2 or 4) or the full neck setting. play with the tone controls a bit to get a good sound with your amp setting.

that’s the simplest way. There are now acoustic simulators too, but that is probably better left to the future. Russell E

The thing is, there’s no such thing as an electric sounding as acoustic as an actual acoustic guitar. There are several guitars that are a bit of both.

But if you want to play the electric guitar and make it sound as acoustic as you can, you have the option to buy a “modeler”. An effect pedal (”boss” has a good one) that you use to change the tone of the guitar will get you a long way. If you want to know more, or have more questions, send me an e-mail. You can find it on Jimmy

Well there are two ways of going about this. You can get a pedal/ use the Neck-middle pick-up combination, Or you can get your guitar modified a little. There are these little pick-ups that they can put in your bridge that can make your guitar sound exactly like an acoustic. They are called Piezos. They are a little on the “rare/ may cost a little bit” side, but if you want a true acoustic tone, piezos are the way to go. No pedal or pickup can come close to what piezos can do. John
