Deciding which string to play it on is a pain in the arse. The E note thats bottom of the stave is the second fret D string, the 7th fret A string and 12th fret E string. All the same note, 3 different positions. It’s really annoying and I’d personally go for tab as it’s definitive as to where to play it.
If you’re reading the notes right, have you checked the key signature? That screwed me over a few times

this is why I recommend at least a few lessons
Teachers can answer questions for you, one on one
you don’t need them for years,
but only a teacher can watch you play, and tell you what you doing wrong
good luck and keep at it byrde94
Give up on sheet music - use tablature! And get a good guitar chord book while you’re at it. knaak
There is an alternative to music sheets optimally designed for guitar playing - they’re called tablatures (tabs). If you don’t want to learn by using tabs, learning guitar would be 50 times harder if you read sheets. Tagasagot
