I have been playing guitar for like 2 months but I have been going on and off and now, I am completely off. I have an instructional video that teaches me how to but it has been like 3 weeks before I touched it or my guitar. How can I motivate myself to learn guitar? Did anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do? I do not have a teacher I am learning by myself and I do not consider getting a guitar teacher.

No clue. I tried for years. I would play a few months, totally lose it, give up, try gain, and on and on. Finally, I just kind of gave it up all together a couple of years ago. Rubber Sheets

Listen to music you like with great guitar riffs. I play bass, and if I need some inspiration I just listen to Sly & The Family Stone (Larry Graham), Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Flea), Brothers Johnson (Louis Johnson), Marvin Gaye (James Jamerson) or The Who (John Entwistle). find some guitarists you like, and listen to them for inspiration. To motivate yourself to play guitar just practice 10 minutes a day. That’s all, and no it does not include getting your guitar and computer setup. Be serious about just think if you can play one song how people will react! They will be surprised! Good Luck! pshakies

Dude, there’s only one thing you can do. Find a song you want to play, and play it. If you don’t want to play it, then it’s going to be a challenge for you to pick up that guitar each day. Guitar - or any musical instrument - isn’t meant to be a chore, it’s something you do for fun.
I play guitar to relax myself. I play it when I want to, not because I feel like I have to, if you know what you mean. You should find something you enjoy about it, and play for that reason. lock

Mostly, I tried to listen to the musicians or songs that made me want to learn guitar over and over again. It motivates me. I’ve been slacking too, especially since I don’t take lessons.

I mean, I’m sure you had a reason why you started to play guitar. Maybe you liked a song and want to learn how to play it. Or maybe you admired a certain musician’s playing. Look for at least 3 easy songs to play that you love.

Also, patience and time is the key. Practice everyday — even if it means playing just for 5-10 minutes. Then you can increase your playing time a little overtime. BoomBlue

Just put it on Craigs List now and be done. If you’re already losing interest and you refuse to take lessons, it’s obviously not for you. Don’t bother wasting more of your time with something you’re not good at or into. ♫ C☮wboy Neal At The Wheel™

Not everybody was meant to have the passion to play an instrument but it’s very satisfying being able to play songs you like. You have to look within yourself to find the drive to play. Just start slow and look for those online lessons. Donovan

Listen to Love Song By Tesla. Or any Tesla music for that matter. The guitar is inspiring. Please just try it and tell me if it helped. TESLA

Never had this problem. I’ve always loved playing. If you don’t like doing it by yourself then it probably isn’t for you. If you are serious about learning though do get a teacher. beware223

Well, if you aren’t interested in doing it, then don’t do it. Don’t beat yourself up if it isn’t your thing. When I first started, I couldn’t keep my hands off the thing, and I still barely can. But there are a million more equally fulfilling pursuits with which to enrich yourself with, so if you really don’t feel it, just give your guitar to someone else that really wants it.

But DVDs & video clips are terrible for learning. Get a big, fat, “How to play guitar” style book that you can really take your time with. Scarecrow

    Hey.. James here..

It wasn’t until probably the last six months or so that I’ve been able to play the guitar. I’ve always been very interested since a young age considering my dad and his brothers pretty much grew up on the guitar and drums. It’s always been in the family and when I would watch them play they always made it look so easy.. it seemed like almost a natural thing for them. I tried for years to learn how to play… tried to have my father help me, looked to books to teach me, spent hours on youtube watching people try to explain.. etc. Nothing ever really worked. I eventually gave up for a few years then just within the past year or so I became interested in it again when I would see all these girls just going crazy over musicians at shows/concerts… lol. So I started looking online and came across this website .. … which is an online program with videos and the works that teaches everything you need to know to learn how to play.

It’s probably the best tutorial/instructional course I’ve ever seen… I learned how to play the guitar very quickly and now it seems like I can almost play songs by ear.. something my uncle can do. I’m actually planning on tryin to start up a band with a few friends of mine after I get myself a newer more expensive better quality guitar. But I definitely would have never learned it if it wasn’t for that course.

I hope I was of some help to you my friend, and I wish you the best of luck! Rock on. Chrona
