Playing jazz means finding a role model like Wes Montgomery, Charlie Byrd or Herb Ellis - whoever you admire. Listen to their records, go to YouTube and find videos. Also think about getting a real archtop jazz guitar like an Epiphone. You don’t need it to play jazz but it will help you get that authentic sound.
Take lessons and practice. Listen to music, all types of music. Even if it is a style of music you might not think you enjoy. Go out of your way to find new and unique music. But mostly practice, practice, practice.
