What painting supplies should i use to paint a guitar?

I want to paint my guitar with certain colors, i found them only in satin or gloss, if i were to use lacquer with this would that cause the paint to crack? Should i use flat colors only? I see people using Krylon mostly, and that usually has gloss or satin in it, is that ok?
What kind of sealant could I use on my guitar hero guitar?
