John asked:

Well, I’ve recorded my guitar by placing the GH mic next to my amp and just using CamStudio to record it. And the quality isn’t all too good.

Now I know this obviously isn’t the best way of recording good quality guitar

But is there any way I can get the recording up to a studio quality sound? Or maybe not studio quality, but y’know… good quality.
Also, would recording with a different program enhance quality?

You won’t be able to achieve a quality recording with that mic. It is basically just a toy. Very low quality. To get a good recording you should use a high quality dynamic microphone like the Shure SM57. This is the mic that I use for recording guitars and it consistently delivers great sound in any situation. Place the mic right on the grill cloth at just a slight angle off center. I have never used cam studio so I cannot comment on it but I highly recommend a good quality recording program like cakewalk or many of the similar programs. gtarczar

There is no point in having any other program to record to. A weak link in the chain, like this toy microphone, will make any recording stink no matter what you try further down the line.
You have heard the expression “you can’t polish a turd”? Well, you can’t fix a lousy signal with a better recording medium.
The Shure SM-57 is the industry standard for recording guitar cabinets. You might also want to try a Samson G-track. It’s a condenser USB microphone - plugs directly into you computer and is also decent for vocals. Be aware that a good/studio quality condenser vocal mike is expensive. Torbjorn
