I taught myself how to play the guitar solo in Smells Like Teen Spirit (by Nirvana), and sometimes I hear the other strings buzzing. I think it’s because either my pick is touching the strings of the guitar, or my fingers on my fretting hand is touching the other strings sometimes. Do I need to practice palm muting more?

Is it worth learning the major scale and how to form scales with music theory? Do you guitar players learn scales based on notes or patterns? And does anyone have any advice on how I can better teach myself to solo in different keys? (It’s kind of lame to keep asking people to play rhythm parts in E all the time)
